Sunday Engagement Session - Stillwater, MN

I had to pleasure to photograph an engagement session recently. It was an incredibly windy Sunday. I wasn't sure it would even be able to happen, but we pushed the start time and the wind decreased a bit...I had my oldest son along as an assistant because my reflector or any of my modifiers would have not been manageable otherwise.

We started at Pioneer Park, in their casual clothes. We had chatted and emailed about what they were ultimately looking for and their favorite spots in Stillwater. They were fantastic at direction and I loved the interactions they had with each other.

Typically I would expect the river view here at Pioneer Park, but the bride had seen a photo with a special view that she requested. I loved the variety we got at the park!

We moved on to Downtown, I knew the colors in their next more formal outfits (The bride to be's dress was from Enchante in Stillwater). I pictured the Old Post Office for these. The architecture, pale stone and blue doors matched their dressier outfits. Their "Save the Date" announcement used one of these beauty shots with their faces and the gorgeous ring.

It started to rain on us, the weather tried to throw everything it had at us,so we wandered down to the gazebo in Lowell Park. The St. Croix River is pretty high, like usual, which made for some stunning bridge images. I couldn't have done these with out my assistant, who hand held my off camera speedlight so we could dramatically capture these images. I can't wait to see the large wall art of one of these! What a great local piece for their new home!

I had so much fun, even with the day's challenges, photographing these two! I love to created special images that people cherish and show off their relationship.
